What is an RJ45 Connector?

RJ45 connectors are commonly referred to as Ethernet Connectors.

A registered jack (RJ) is a standardized physical network interface for connecting telecommunications or data equipment. The physical connectors that registered jacks use are mainly of the modular connector and 50-pin miniature ribbon connector types. The most common twisted-pair connector is an 8-position, 8-contact (8P8C) modular plug and jack commonly referred to as an RJ45 connector.

Available in RJ10, RJ11, RJ12, RJ13, and RJ45 types, LINK-PP Devices’ line of modular connectors offers a variety of position and contact options including 4P4C, 6P2C, 6P4C, 6P6C, 8P8C, and 8P10C. These modular jacks further feature vertical or horizontal orientations, surface mount, panel mount, and through-hole mounting styles, and single port, 1x2, 2x4, 2x6, and 2x8 port options. Select models also offer shielding, mounting flanges or spring tabs, high-temperature plastic, and reflow solder compatibility. LINK-PP Devices’ range of RJ45 connectors carries additional features including integrated magnetics, Power over Ethernet (PoE), LED indicators, and speeds of 10/100 or 10/100/1000 BaseT, 2.5G, 5G, 10G.

Current Uses of RJ45 Devices

RJ45 devices are chiefly used to connect an internet-enabled device (such as a PC) with another network device such as a server, router, modem, smart TV, gaming console, and other devices that use the Ethernet protocol. Ethernet networks are common in both professional and domestic environments. Hardwiring using RJ45 devices enables higher data speeds with stability and security of data transfer, making them also attractive for use in industry and on the factory floor.
